Historic Salamanca Place

Historic Salamanca Place has been a hive of activity since the early days of Hobart.  In the early 1800's water lapped the docks just a short distance from the sandstone buildings for which Salamanca is renown.  These buildings were the primary centre for cargo in and out of Hobart.

Today Salamanca Place is a vibrant meeting place for dining, the arts and fastidious shoppers.

The Salamanca Markets

On Saturdays between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Salamanca Place transforms into a bustling hive of activity which is the world-famous Salamanca Markets.  The air is alive with the sounds of the banter of trade, melodic tunes, the aroma of gastronomical delights, the scent of fragrant oils and candles and the unique bouquet of Tasmanian timbers.

The markets boasts over 300 stalls selling a wide range of bric-a-brac; crafts such as paintings, photographs, sculptures, carvings and turned wood items; candles and essential oils; clothing; tasty foods; fine Tasmanian wine; music; fresh fruit and vegetables and much more.

The Markets would not be held in high esteem if it were not for the people who create and/or sell their wares or entertain.  The following are stories of some these people.

Cary Lewincamp

Beautiful music elegantly played

No visit to the Markets is complete unless you linger to listen to the delightful tunes of Cary Lewincamp's seven-string guitar.

Cary is one of Tasmania's most accomplished guitarists and his music is a melodic blend of soothing and vibrant tunes, which are a brilliant reflection of the natural beauty of Tasmania.

The tunes are great when entertaining friends or when sitting back with a good Tasmanian wine and cheese or when you just want to put your feet up and let the world go by.

Cary has a wonderful collection of CDs which are available for purchase.

You can go to Cary's website by clicking on the button on the Tasmania-All Ove home page or better still see the maestro play at the Salamanca Markets.
